Protect and nourish your skin

in Radlett, Hertfordshire

Skin care treatments are enhanced, protected, and maintained by a good skincare regime. Though new products are available to us all the time, there are certain tried and tested substances and ingredients that will always benefit and nourish the skin, these include retinol, sun protection, and Vitamin C in particular.

In combination, these key ingredients treat acne and pigmentation, fight the signs of ageing, protect your skin from UV radiation, and rejuvenate, brighten, and soften the skin.

Effective skin care products should:

  • ● Reduce trans epidermal water loss resulting in hydrated skin with improved radiance and texture
  • ● Stimulate collagenesis resulting in increased structural support in the skin
  • ● Exfoliate and increase cell turnover resulting in improved texture and radiance
  • ● Suppress pigmentation production resulting in a more even skin tone

Frequently Asked Questions

About Medical Grade Skin Care

  • What does Retinol do for my skin?

Retinol is a highly effective, evidence based, topical skin care product. Derived from vitamin A, retinol is highly effective in the treatment of ageing and mature skin. Retinol softens skin texture, and treats acne, pigmentation, and melasma.

Vitamin A is found as a naturally occurring antioxidant in the skin. It participates in the production of vital skin components such as collagen and elastin.

Used long term a good quality retinol will act as a good moisturiser, antioxidant and will greatly improve skin texture and quality.

  • What does SPF do for my skin?

Sun Protection Factor (SPF) creams restrict how much sun light radiation your skin is exposed to, ranging from mild protection to total sun blocks. They do not directly alter the function of the skin but prevent cellular and DNA damage. Ultraviolet radiation damages collagen and elastin causing prematurely aged skin with fine lines and wrinkles.

  • What does vitamin C do for my skin?

Topically applied vitamin C stimulates the production of collagen and elastin – the crucial elements in youthful skin that keep it supple and firm. Topical vitamin C can help prevent premature ageing of the skin, brighten the complexion, and reduce the appearance of pigmentation, restoring a healthier, more youthful appearance.

The benefits of vitamin C are found using a daily morning application, whilst vitamin A derivates are applied at night (as it is more photosensitising).

What do alpha and beta hydroxy acids do for my skin?

Alpha and beta hydroxy acids have many benefits but their primary use is as chemical exfoliators – improving cell turnover. With regular use they can initiate collagen synthesis increasing skin thickness and reduce wrinkles.

We use products from the Obagi Medical, Mesoestetic, Neostrata and Alumier MD range. The skin care ranges are useful for day to day skin care, anti-aging, for the treatment of acne prone skin and other skin care concerns such as discolouration, sensitive skin and hyperpigmentation.
